Choosing a sauna for a cabin or second home

Updated 1 Nov 2026Figures from 181 saunas we list

A sauna at a cabin, lake house or second home is a classic pairing. The questions are a little different from a sauna at home: how you'll get it there, what power the property has, how cold it gets while you're away, and whether you can manage it from a distance. Here's how to choose one, using the 181 saunas we list.

Start with the power at the property

Every sauna we list is electric. 78 are outdoor-rated, and 74 of those need 240V or 30A and up; 4 run on 120V. Older or rural properties may have limited panel capacity, so have a licensed electrician check it before you choose. See Sauna electrical requirements.

Barrel or cabin?

Barrels are one option many cabin owners consider: 31 of the outdoor saunas we list are barrels. Square cabins can add a porch or changing room. Our barrel vs cabin comparison has the numbers.

Compact outdoor saunas

These 39 outdoor saunas take up 40 sq ft or less, in our usual order. The first six are shown.
