The electrical supply decides more sauna purchases than any other spec. Here is what each of the 140 saunas in our catalog asks for, sorted into three groups.
This is preliminary guidance. It comes from the makers' published specs, not an inspection of your home. A licensed electrician must confirm what your panel and wiring can support, and local code applies.

Group 1: standard outlet
These use a normal 120V plug. Several makers still say the outlet should be on its own circuit, so nothing else draws power while the sauna heats. All 31 are infrared. Our plug-in guide compares them in detail.

Group 2: dedicated 120V circuit
These need a 120V circuit used only by the sauna, usually 20A with a NEMA 5-20 outlet. If you don't already have one where the sauna will go, an electrician will need to add it.

Every traditional and hybrid sauna in our catalog is in this group, plus a few larger infrared models. Most traditional stoves here are 1.9 kW, 10.5 kW, 10.6 kW, 3.5 kW, 4.5 kW, 6 kW, 7.5 kW, 8 kW, 9 kW and are hardwired by an electrician rather than plugged in. See our traditional guide.

120V vs 240V
A 120V sauna uses the same voltage as ordinary outlets, so smaller infrared models can plug in. A 240V circuit carries more power for the same current, which traditional stoves need. Adding a 240V circuit is a job for a licensed electrician. Questions to ask your electrician
- Does my panel have room and capacity for the circuit this sauna needs?
- How far is the run from the panel to where the sauna will go, and will it need a permit?
- For an outdoor sauna: what disconnect and conduit does local code require?
- Does the maker's manual call for GFCI protection, or say to avoid it? Some infrared makers specify a non-GFCI outlet.

Do I need an electrician for a sauna?
For 109 of the 140 saunas we list, yes, unless you already have the right dedicated circuit. The 31 standard-outlet models may not need one. An electrician should confirm either way.
What size breaker does a sauna need?
It depends on the model. Each table above lists the amperage the maker publishes. Traditional stoves commonly need 30A or more on 240V. Follow the manual and your electrician.
Can I run a sauna on 120V?
Yes, if it's designed for it. 54 of the saunas we list run on 120V, all of them infrared.
